Someone over on Zuck’s hell-hole had asked the following in response to a friend’s post:
“My question is though, how can anyone help? Some people truly have no idea HOW to or WHERE to start. Speaking our thoughts aren’t enough. Rioting isn’t enough. What can we do? […] Maybe if we have more sources of where to start and how to start then something can be done. Lead the way!”
This was what I wrote in response:
“Find people who align with your views and start getting them into local elections. School boards, town councils, HOAs, Chambers of Commerce, attorneys, judges, etc.
Build a power base there. Where possible make coalitions with others because it becomes better for all of their constituents and not because it’s ideologically pure. Do you think The Religious Right truly cares that the felon is utterly unchristian?
Work those candidates up the political system, to County, then State, then National.
There are lots of ways to get started. There are podcasts, YouTube channels, Reels, Stories, TikToks to follow and amplify, think tanks to fund, and enemy comment sections to gain ground in.
Remember that in order to change society, you must change thought. It takes a disciplined, unified, united, strategic, and an utterly ruthless approach. And it’s gonna take time, it certainly won’t happen within my lifetime, and it must be on-going. Always stay vigilant.
“Stay alert; stay alive!”
It’s the only way, within the existing system, to effect change. It’s what the Conservatives in both parties did when they all shifted to the GOP as a result of The Civil Rights Act. They soon gained a huge addition to their coalition when they embraced the Religious Right, culminating with Regan’s election to the White House.
Understand that Ronald Regan was the start of America’s current slide towards the Right. Also, understand that what’s happening now is their end game. The National Socialist German Worker’s Party did the same thing.
It’s also how The Civil Rights Act got passed.
They were willing to play the long game. We must be willing, too.
I’ll also add, don’t try to do it all at once. And don’t let the barrage of insanity keep you off balance and frozen. Pick one thing you are truly passionate about funding, supporting, and defending and stick with it. It could be a specific cause, sure, but it can also be a person, a family run local business, it could be your town library or local post office. Just focus on one thing or you’ll drop out very quickly.
We will all need each other for the long haul.”
In the end, whether democracy survives or dies, we are responsible because no one is coming to save us. Especially from ourselves.
Our form of democracy requires advanced citizenship, beyond Civics 101. We need an engaged, educated, and empathic citizenry.
It’s the only way.
So, what do you think, shall we save America?
